Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Shrub up to 2 m tall with an erect growth form.
Foliage Lance-shaped leaves are mostly green with a greenish yellow, cream-flecked margin. The leaf margin is lined with coarse, rounded or pointed teeth that are irregularly spaced from one another.
Flowers White, tubular flowers are densely arranged in a terminal inflorescence. The flower bud is flattened and circular, resembling an upside down musical note. It opens to form a 2-lipped flower with the upper lobe divided into 2 parts and the lower lobe divided into 3 parts. The long stamens are 2-3 times the length of the lobes and are mostly dark purple, but whitish near the base of the filaments. The stigma is solid dark purple.
