Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Small herbaceous plant with compact, low-growing form.
Foliage Smooth, glossy leaves are dark green with varying amounts of red variegation, especially along the margin and veins. They are large and oval-shaped, tapering to soft, pointed tips.
Stems Smooth, round stems are pinkish.
Cultivation This plant is easy-to-grow and makes an ideal houseplant or office plant. It tolerates low light levels, but may eventually become leggy. For best results, provide bright diffused, natural or fluorescent lighting. Full sun will cause the leaves to scorch. The size of the plant is constrained by its pot size, growing up to 1.2 m when provided with ample space.
