Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form An aquatic fern, it has a creeping growth habit due to its horizontal rhizome and can grow up to 15 to 30cm in height. 
Foliage The long fronds are green and textured with an entire margin and an acute apex with an upright form and are 2 to 7cm in width. The fronds originate from the creeping horizontal rhizome. 
Flowers It is a fern, as such there are no flowers. 
Fruit It is a fern, as such there are no flowers.  
Habitat It is found growing at the flood zone of shaded streams, rivers or wet rocks in the spray zone. 
Cultivation The plant is ideally grown in water with pH levels of 5.0 to 8.0 and in water temperatures of 18 to 30°C under partial sun. A slow-growing plant, it requires little nutrients and dissolved carbon dioxide. Thus, making it a low-maintainence plant.

Landscaping It is a popular plant in aquascaping for freshwater aquariums due to its hardiness and can be easily maintained without need for additional nutrients or carbon dioxide and the fronds are unpalatable to fishes.
