Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form An erect shrub, multi-stemmed, growing to about 6 m.
Foliage Simple narrow leaves, lanceolate with parallel venation, and entire margin. Leaf has white edge with dark green stripes in the middle. Leaf base clasps or wraps around the stem (amplexicaul).
Stems Stem is brown, with scars from fallen leaves.
Etymology The genus Dracaena is from Greek word 'drakaina' which means female dragon, and could refer to the source of the dragon's blood, with reference to the dried sap from the plant.
