Trends & Threats Habitat degradation and collection for curio trade.
Scientific Interest & Potential Value Operculum referred to as "cat's eye" because of bright colouration used as jewellery.
Conservation Notes Although never abundant, this species could be found up until the early 1970s but is now extremely rare. It needs to be protected from shell collectors, some sites need to be designated as nature areas or marine protected areas, and legislation to protect marine life from over-collecting needs to be instituted.
