Description

Size 6 cm
Description Fairly large snails. Females lay translucent egg capsules which contain several embryos.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Ecological Notes Sandy reef flats. Moves about the reef flat in search of bivales.
Habitats Marine
Distribution In Singapore, used to be commonly found on reef flats but is now rarely encountered. Found in Taiwan to Singapore.

Conservation

Trends & Threats Habitat degradation; collection for food; collection for marine curio trade.
Scientific Interest & Potential Value High value in the shell trade. Reduction in population size creates a hiatus in the reef food chain.
Conservation Notes Distribution confined to this region, particularly Singapore and southern Peninsular Malaysia. At present uncommon on our reefs, although abundant in the past. Laws regulating the taking of marine fauna need to be instituted.
