Description

Size 6 cm
Description Slender and laterally compressed body that is greyish brown in colour, with four black stripes spanning across the length of body. Has a snout that is slightly curved and pointed. A distinctive blue ring can be seen around the eye, and red markings can be found on the dorsal, anal and caudal fins.

Ecology, Habitat & Location

Ecological Notes Omnivorous feeder that consumes insects and other organic matter. Creates nests in clusters of vegetation on surface and lay their eggs in there.

Distribution In Singapore, it can be found in ponds that have dense vegetation and streams in both rural and open areas. Worldwide, it can be found in Indochina, the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo and Java.
