Growth Form A shrub or small tree, growing up to 7 m tall.
Foliage Leaves alternate, simple, linear-lanceolate, measuring 10 - 15 cm long, margin entire, spirally arranged along the stem. 
Stems Its branches contain milky sap. 
Flowers Cymes, terminal, corrola white, funnel form, 5 lobes, measuring 5 cm across.
Fruit Drupe, has 2 - 4 seeds.
Etymology The generic name Cascabela appears to have come from the term 'cascabela' which means small bell, refers to the flower shape.
