Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Floating aquatic plant.
Foliage Elliptical leaves with reddish leaf stalks are green or red on the upper and lower surfaces and sometimes have black spots. Floating leaves in the wild grow up to 45 cm wide and have an irregularly toothed leaf margin, while submersed leaves in cultivation grow up to 15 cm wide, have a smooth leaf margin and are pinkish.
Flowers White or pinkish flowers are held slightly above the water.
Cultivation This species is rare in the horticultural trade.
