"Nation of Gardeners" Greening Up our Garden City
01 Nov 2006
? A ?nation of gardeners? will be lending their hands to green up our Garden City this weekend. This is part of the Clean & Green Week 2006 gardening activities lined up by the National Parks Board (NParks). Clean & Green Week 2006 will be officially launched by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong this Sunday 5 November 2006 at Republic Polytechnic. Some 3,000 individuals will be gardening at an upcoming park site currently under construction next to Republic Polytechnic.
As NParks? Director of Streetscape, Mr Simon Longman highlighted, ?Led by our Prime Minister, the community will have the first-time opportunity to plant the very first seeds of an upcoming park. This fun and meaningful gardening will see residents, community gardeners, park visitors and the general public being directly involved in the actual park creation.?
He added, ?There is also a host of exciting new things lined up for our Garden City in the months ahead, such as the upcoming Singapore Garden Festival in December 2006 and the Horticulture Park (HortPark) in mid 2007. The public can catch a sneak preview of them at the Clean and Green Week 2006 exhibition at Republic Polytechnic.?
