NParks’ Parks Festival – Parks for Everyone enlivens Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park with a two-day carnival and performances for year-end celebrations

Singapore, 1 November 2016 – The National Parks Board (NParks) celebrates the end of this year with NParks’ Parks Festival – Parks for Everyone, which will bring together all of NParks’ programmes from 19 to 20 November 2016, 9.30am onwards at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, River Plains. The fun-filled weekend will provide the community an opportunity to gather and bond with one another over shared spaces and common interests. Programmes include nature guided tours, mass workouts, free music performances, as well as arts and gardening bazaars and workshops. The event will culminate with the fourth instalment of the NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra.

Parks Festival fosters community spirit and brings together residents, both young and old, through activities such as gardening, volunteering, sports, and wellness. Visitors can engage in art and craft, pick up gardening tips, learn more about Singapore’s flora and fauna, create their own miniature terrariums, or participate in mass exercises such as the National Steps Challenge, zumba, yoga and piloxing. They can also look forward to fringe activities such as kite-flying, a human velcro wall, wood-carving and sand art. Kids will be entertained by balloon sculptors, meet-and-greet sessions with mascots from the popular kids programme, Dinosaur Train,  roving magicians and a giant bouncy castle. Members of the public will be able to enhance their experience at the park with these varied activities of different themes, while dining on local favourites. This is event is proudly supported by Nanyang Inc., Ascendas-Singbridge Gives Foundation and Variety, the Children’s Charity of Singapore.

Themed “Contemporary Pop/Rock”, the Rockestra™ concert on 19 November, 6.00pm will feature mainstream hits and classical favourites performed by Olivia Ong, Jive Talkin’, The JumpStart, Ciao Turtle, SuperSonic and Shirlyn & The UnXpected. The concert will be hosted by popular Mediacorp artiste, Pornsak.

Members of the public can send their song requests in advance by texting <Your Name>_<Song Title>_<Name of Artiste> and <Dedication Message> to 77275 from now till 11 November 2016.

NParks will also be giving out limited Festival Picnic Packs for Parks Festival through a Facebook contest. Interested participants can tag at least three Facebook friends they wish to bring along to Parks Festival, and leave a comment on the favourite activity they would like to do at Parks Festival. The contest will run from 1 November to 14 November, 12pm. A total of 20 winners from the Facebook contest will be able to redeem a picnic pack at the concert on 19 November.
