Session synopsis
The Singapore Botanic Gardens had an early role in forest research and conservation in Singapore. Today, the Gardens hosts a Tropical Forest Ecology Research programme, anchored by a network of permanent plots — standardised areas within which surveys and measurements are conducted. Findings from this plot-based monitoring reveal Singapore’s forests in a state of continual change, shaped both by their ongoing recovery from past land use and by the increasing frequency of extreme weather events.
