SPEAKER SERIES
Speaker Series (16 July 2026): What collections reveal about pollination in a changing world
We are pleased to have with us Dr Joanne Bennett, who will share insights into when pollinator loss translates into pollination failure using herbarium and museum specimens. The session will also reveal how plant traits can both buffer species against change and leave them vulnerable to it.
Join us on Thursday, 16 July 2026, 4pm at Function Hall of Singapore Botanic Gardens (Level 1 of Botany Centre), to find out more!
Session is free-seating thus no advance registration is required.

Session synopsis
Pollinators are essential for plant reproduction. However, detecting how environmental change disrupts pollination is challenging due to a lack of long-term data. Drawing on herbarium and museum specimens, Dr Joanne Bennett will share insights into when pollinator loss translates into pollination failure. The session will also reveal how plant traits can both buffer species against change and leave them vulnerable to it. This highlights the importance of collections in understanding ecological change.
About the Speaker
Dr Joanne Bennett is an ecologist at Charles Sturt University, Australia, who studies how interactions between plants and pollinators respond to environmental change and how this affects plant reproduction.
