Session synopsis
Seed banking Singapore's native flora involves challenges beyond simply collecting seeds. Assessing seed viability, storability, and germinability, while building strong interdisciplinary relationships, all demand careful attention. Although countries like Australia offer valuable lessons from their long experience in seed banking, many of the challenges are unique to our region. At the Singapore Botanic Gardens’ Seed Bank, we are building an effective and meaningful operation for the ex-situ conservation of our irreplaceable native flora.
