Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form It is a tree that can grow up to 30 m tall.
Foliage Its spirally arranged, stalked leaves have thinly leathery leaf blades that are elliptic to drop-shaped, and 3.5–23 by 1.5–9 cm.
Flowers Its cream-white flowers develop in flowering shoots. The hairy shoots are 10–24 cm long.
Fruit Its fleshy fruit develops in clusters. They are also ellipsoid, smooth, green then turning pale yellow to rose-red, finally blackish, and 2–3.5 by 1.5–2.5 cm.
Habitat It grows in lowland forest, and swampy areas, up to 750 m altitude. It occurs locally in Pulau Ubin.
Etymology Mangi, Indian mango, vernacular name for one Mangifera species; Latin fero, to bear; griffithii, after William Griffith (1810–1845), a British botanist and surgeon
