Kids for Nature (PAL outdoor education)

Targeted at the Primary 1 and 2 levels, Kids for Nature is an outdoor education programme developed by NParks to meet the objectives of the Ministry of Education’s Programme for Active Learning (PAL) initiative.

Learning objectives

The Kids for Nature programme aims to:

  • Educate children on appreciating nature and understanding the importance of our greening efforts to transform Singapore into a City in Nature.
  • Cultivate a sense of ownership for the environment.
  • Encourage and provide opportunities for children to take action to sustain our City in Nature.
  • Impart relevant skills and knowledge to enable children to be safe and comfortable outdoors.
  • Shape character and attitude through experiential learning in an outdoor environment
  • Help in developing social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies through group and individual activities.

Refer to the Introduction to Kids for Nature presentation slides for more details.

Conducting the programme

Kids for Nature is tailored for school teachers to conduct.

Each school will be provided soft copies of the Primary 1 and 2 Kids for Nature guidebooks to equip teachers with the relevant skills and knowledge to conduct the programme.

These guidebooks contain:

  • Detailed lesson plans.
  • Worksheets.
  • Other relevant resources.

Programme structure

Both Primary 1 and 2 modules consist of 8 two-hour lessons, with the Primary 2 module designed to be a comprehensive follow-up to the Primary 1 module.

While you can choose to take up Primary 1 or 2 modules individually, we encourage the adoption of the programme in its entirety.

This allows your students to benefit from a more extensive range of outdoor skills.
