Local Gardeners Shine at Singapore Garden Festival, With Carnival-Inspired Gardens and Unique Edibles

Published 04 Jul 2026
- Community gardeners from the West District take top honours at eighth edition of Singapore Gardeners’ Cup
- Over 440 fruits and vegetables grown by local gardeners submitted for Community Garden Edibles Competition

Singapore, 4 July 2026 – The milestone 10th edition of the Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) opens to the public today at Gardens by the Bay. Among the exciting highlights of the SGF 2026 are carnival-inspired garden displays created by more than 300 community gardeners for the Singapore Gardeners’ Cup (SGC), and outstanding harvests, including uncommon or unique fruits and vegetables grown by local gardeners for the Community Garden Edibles Competition (CGEC). Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and National Development, presented the awards to the winners of both competitions earlier today.

The “Best of Show” award for the SGC was awarded to the West District for their garden display “Quantum Fair 3026”, which features playful reinterpretations of retro rides, while offering a glimpse into carnivals of the future.  The winners for CGEC across 10 “Best Edibles” category and the Open category were also recognised for their quality harvests. These include a chilli hybrid, a Tuscan rosemary plant, a cauliflower, and a cabbage. The champion chilli grower showcased his horticultural mastery with a hybrid created by crossing two chilli cultivars – ‘Dreamcatcher’ and ‘White Thai’. To foster a greater interest in gardening and provide gardeners and those in the landscape and horticulture sectors in Singapore with more resources, NParks' most popular publication "1001 Garden Plants in Singapore: A New Compendium" is now available for download as a free digital book.

First published in 2003, this fourth edition features over 2,700 plants commonly found in Singapore, complete with care requirements and plant characteristics. The digital book can be downloaded on the Gardening SG website at go.gov.sg/1001-book.

Jointly organised by the National Parks Board (NParks) and Gardens by the Bay, SGF 2026 is held at Gardens by the Bay from 4 to 12 July 2026. The Festival celebrates its milestone 10th edition with the theme “Carnival of Blooms”, showcasing the best of tropical landscape design and horticulture, alongside showstopping landscape and floral displays by leading local and international designers.

About the Competitions

Singapore Gardeners’ Cup
Now in its eighth edition, the SGC showcases the creativity of local community gardeners, as they team up with landscape professionals to create a thematic garden display. This year’s SGC brought together 36 gardening groups under NParks’ Community in Bloom programme, spanning three districts: Central, East and West. Based on the theme "Vintage Carnival", the community gardeners collaborated with NParks staff and implementing partners from the local landscape sector to create garden displays that evoke the charm of old-fashioned fairgrounds while celebrating nature's vibrant spectacle.

Community Garden Edibles Competition
First launched in 2015, the CGEC celebrates the dedication and ingenuity of Singapore's local gardeners, recognising their ability to grow and harvest exceptional edibles, including rare and uncommon varieties. This year, participants submitted entries as individuals or as gardening groups across 10 "Best Edibles" categories, including a new “Chilli/Capsicum” category, and an Open Category, showcasing the diversity of fruits and vegetables that can thrive in Singapore's urban environment.

Other Competitive Displays at SGF 2026
