Plants and animals

Native coastal forest trees
Native coastal forest trees

Much of the existing greenery has been preserved, including trees that have grown for over half a century, to retain the area’s unique topography and rustic charm. Among these are Sea Almond (Terminalia catappa) and Common Pulai ( Alstonia angustiloba) trees. Additional native tree species, such as the Pianggu (Horsfieldia irya) and the bird-attracting Small-leafed Oil-fruit ( Elaeocarpus mastersii) have also been introduced to further enrich the landscape.

Fruit trees

Try to spot Rambutan or Durian trees – species that were likely planted by Punggol settlers and still stand as reminder of the area’s heritage.

Common Tiger Butterfly

The Common Tiger Butterfly is easily recognised by its vivid orange wings with strongly marked black veins, which sometimes cause it to be mistaken for the Black Veined Tiger.
