Quick facts about the Big Sister's Island Trail

  • Estimated walking time: 1 to 1.5 hours

What to look out for

Highlights of the trail include:

The 220m floating boardwalk is Singapore’s first floating boardwalk that also serves as a coral habitat and research site. It allows visitors to view corals and marine biodiversity up close regardless of the tide level.

Look out for:

  • Turtles: Keep your eyes peeled as you pass the waters. If you are lucky, you might spot a Hawksbill Turtle in the shallows.
  • Fishes: You may even spot the Bengal Sergeant and Tuskfish near the panels attached on the lower sides of the boardwalk.
  • Birds: Besides the Pacific Swallow, you may even get to see the Dark morph Pacific Reef Heron stalking fish by the water's edge.

The Ocean Network Express Coastal Forest Trail will lead visitors on a hike through the island’s coastal forest. Learn about the unique characteristics of coastal flora species and their adaptations.

Look out for:

Exploring the Lagoon Tidal Pool gives visitors the opportunity to experience the vibrant marine biodiversity.

    Look out for:

    • Seagrass: Seagrass are important species that provide habitats for marine animals and contribute to carbon sequestration. They have leaves, flowers, seeds and roots.
    • Mangrove: Mangroves have adaptations such as specialised roots to help them live in the salty waters. They produce long fruits called propagules which begin to grow even before they fall off the tree.
    • Intertidal animals: Many marine species in this zone are adapted to survive drastic changes in environmental conditions, such as the Common Sea Cucumber and Flower Crab
