Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Evergreen shrub, scrambling vine, growing to 2.5 m high.
Foliage Leaves are opposite, pinnately compound; leaflets of 2-9 are sessile, elliptical to ovate shape, measuring up to 7.5 by3.5 cm, with apex rounded and base rounded or cuneate, glabrous on both leaf surfaces, and margin serrated.
Stems Stems are cylindrical with lenticels. 
Flowers Flowers are numerous in axillary raceme; calyx green while corolla tube golden yellow in colour.
Fruits Fruits are flattened, dehiscent, with seeds of transparent papery wing.
Etymology Genus Tecoma comes from the Mexican name, tecomaxochitl. Specific epithet capensis refers to the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. Cultivar Aurea means golden yellow, which refers to the colour of flower.
