Description and Ethnobotany

Foliage Its opposite, stalked leaves have thinly leathery leaf blades that are usually egg-shaped with a pointed tip, 6.4 by 8.9 cm, shortly hairy, and have 5 pairs of veins that are depressed above and elevated below.
Flowers Its flowers are light greyish-pink, 7.6 mm long, hairless, and arranged in clusters.
Fruit Its capsule is spindle-shaped, 8.9 mm long, and hairless.
Habitat It grows in inland forests.
Associated Fauna Its flowers are insect-pollinated.
Etymology Latin uncaria, hook, referring to climbers with hook-shaped flower clusters; Latin roxburghiana, commemorating Dr. William Roxburgh (1751–1815), director of Calcutta Botanic Garden
