Microchipping of Cats
Microchipping of Cats
Things for cat owners to note
These changes will take effect from 1 September 2024.
All pet cats are required to be implanted with a microchip before an online licence can be applied for them via the Pet Animal Licensing System (PALS). For more information on the license application process and requirements, please click here.
Microchipping provides cats with a lasting form of identification. The procedure, which is performed by licensed veterinarians involves inserting a tiny chip, about the size of a rice grain, beneath the cat's skin. Each microchip contains a unique identification (ID) number, providing the pet cat with a permanent, individual identity. This ID number is essential for reuniting lost cats with their owners, offering peace of mind to pet parents.
The microchipping process is safe and akin to a routine vaccination. Cat owners can visit their preferred veterinary clinic to have their pets microchipped.
In addition, AVS will be organising more free cat microchipping drives island wide, as part of our efforts to support cat owners in meeting the requirements under the Cat Management Framework.
Registration slots for the month open on the 1st day of the preceding month (e.g. Slots for February will open on 1st January). Please note that:
- These events are strictly by registration only. Walk-ins are not allowed.
- Only successful applicants will receive a confirmation email to confirm their time slot for the event.
