Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Small, compact rosette up to about 2 cm wide.
Foliage The spathulate leaves are lined with glandular trichomes and arranged in a tight rosette.
Flowers The inflorescence (known as a scape) produces a long, thin stalk which reaches over 30 cm long. Each flower is composed of 5 white, obovate petals arranged in a star-shaped pattern.
Fruit The dry, dehiscent fruit is known as a capsule.
Habitat The red form of Drosera burmanni originates from Humpty Doo, Australia. Humpty Doo is sometimes used as a cultivar name for this form.
Cultivation Although this cultivar is often considered an annual, you can prolong its lifespan with regular feeding. It is particularly important to feed the plant during flowering, because some plants with inadequate nutrition will die after flowering. In the absence of insects, you can feed the plant by grinding up fish food, making a paste with a little water and applying a small piece on the tentacles. This cultivar will only become bright red under full sun or bright artificial lights.
