Description and Ethnobotany

Growth Form Small, non-tuberous herbaceous perennial forms rosettes up to 20 cm tall.
Foliage The lance-shaped leaves have a distinct, raised midrib and grow up to 20 cm long. The leaves are lined with dew-bearing tentacles to trap insects. The tentacles on the leaf margin are longer and more dense than the ones on the surface. The leaves turn burgundy under full sun or dark green under shade.
Flowers The inflorescence is known as a scape and bears over 20 dark red to pale yellowish orange or greenish white flowers (5 mm wide). The flowers are star-shaped and composed of 5 narrowly ovate petals.
Fruit The dry, dehiscent fruit is known as a capsule.
Habitat Endemic to coastal mountain rainforest in northeast Queensland, Australia. Occurs near stream banks, creeks or short scrub.
Cultivation This species prefers consistently moist media, such as long fibered sphagnum moss.
Etymology The genus "Drosera" originates from the Greek word for dew ("drosos"), referring to the mucilage produced by the tentacles.
