About the exhibition:

The fourth edition of This Little Red Dot…, organised by the Singapore Art Museum (SAM), invited participants to respond to the theme “City in Nature.” Launched in 2020 as part of SAM’s National Day programme, the name of the competition references Singapore’s nickname “little red dot”, which refers to how the city nation is often depicted on the world map. It has since been used as a starting point for creative expression focusing on a different associated theme every year. From the numerous submissions received this year, 60 artworks were selected for the exhibition showcase at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

For this edition, SAM has partnered with the Singapore Botanic Gardens and NParks to commemorate 60 years of greening in Singapore. Since the planting of a Mempat tree at Farrer Circus in 1963 by Singapore’s first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, there have been many efforts to conserve our natural heritage. Visitors are welcome to explore the lush, verdant grounds of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and marvel at the abundance of tropical flora. They can then head to the Nassim Gate Visitor Centre and Green Pavilion at Tanglin Gate to view the artworks submitted by the public.
