Date: 17 Feb – 14 May 2023
Time: 5am - 12mn
Venue: People's Gallery - Botany Centre (Tanglin Gate), Nassim Gate Visitor Centre and Botanic Gardens MRT Exit A (Bukit Timah Gate)

About the exhibition:
In this exhibition, renowned wildlife artist Thong Chow Ngian aims to illustrate Special Moments in Nature for the viewers by capturing dramatic moments presented during typical avian behaviours like courting, feeding, preening, perching and of course, flying. He does so by creating photo-realistic art, a technique he is well-known for. He uses the semi-transparent quality of the acrylic medium to gradually build up numerous layers of paint onto the canvas that transforms the subject into a life-like image. The result is astonishing – sometimes it is hard to tell if it is a photograph or a painting. Come to the Singapore Botanic Gardens and be wowed by these Special Moments in Nature.

About Thong Chow Ngian:
As a youngster, Thong Chow Ngian discovered his love and talent for drawing and painting. As he grew older, it was birds and animals that captured his passion for painting. One major inspiration that launched his love for painting wildlife came from the National Museum of Singapore’s William Farquhar Collection of Natural History Drawings.

Chow Ngian obtained a degree in Fine Arts via a joint degree program between Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and Huddersfield University in 2004. In 2015 he bade goodbye to a long and illustrious career in the corporate world to pursue his dream and develop himself as a wildlife artist.

Chow Ngian hopes that through his artworks, viewers will be pleasantly surprised and captivated by the beauty and diversity of nature found in Singapore and children will be encouraged to explore their natural surroundings.
