East Coast Park to have more open space and family-friendly amenities

Parkland Green to be ready by September 2014 and Marine Cove on track to be completed by mid-2016

 

 

Singapore, 21 May 2014 – East Coast Park users can soon look forward to more open space, new family-friendly amenities, and a range of recreational options when enhancement works at Parkland Green and Marine Cove are completed by National Parks Board (NParks) in September 2014 and mid-2016 respectively.  Part of the enhancements includes a reduction in infrastructure footprint to enable more open green spaces for visitors to enjoy.  For instance, the Gross Floor Area for Parkland Green is reduced by 25% and the lawn that was previously fenced up will be opened. The enhancements are part of NParks’ efforts to create a City in a Garden, and cater to the large number of visitors at Singapore’s most popular park.

 

Big lawns for recreation at Parkland Green

Parkland Green opens in September, with more open space for recreational activities. Visitors can enjoy picnics and gatheringsat the 1-hectare open lawn.Users can also choose from eight dining establishments offering a diverse range of cuisines and dining concepts to suit different tastes. From cafes, restaurants to microbrewery, park users can gather with friends and families for coffee, international cuisine, or desserts. There will also be two sports and retail outlets offering cycling and skating products, and a laser tag arena for those who enjoy an adrenaline rush.

 

Other amenities at Parkland Green include 20 bicycle stands, two toilets (including one with shower facilities), a vehicular drop-off point, a covered green roof walkway which links the area with existing underpass from Marine Parade, and a garden-themed carpark with 306 lots lined with trees and shrubs. Mr Kong Yit San, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Park Management and Lifestyle Cluster, NParks, said, “With more than 7 million visits annually, East Coast Park is Singapore's most popular park, catering to the diverse needs of users. There are quiet corners, as well as lawn areas where families and friends can play together. The enhancement projects are part of NParks’ continuous efforts to upgrade amenities and improve accessibility and connectivity within the park.”

 

More open space at Marine Cove

When completed in mid-2016, Marine Cove will have more open park space, a playground, and a good mix of dining and recreational facilities to complement those at Parkland Green. The playground will have a range of interactive and inclusive play equipment suitable for children of varying ages and children with physical challenges. While Marine Cove is undergoing enhancements, park users can continue to enjoy dining and other recreational activities in areas such as Rain Tree Cove and Playground @ Big Splash.
