Binjai A large tree that grows up to 45 m tall. Crown is dense and dome-shaped. Trunk is columnar without buttresses, with greyish bark that exudes irritant sap. Leaves are large and leathery. Flowers are pinkish in colour. Fruits are pale-brown with rough skin, flesh is white and has a sour taste. Native to Singapore. According to Singapore Red Data Book (2008, 2nd Edition), this species is critically endangered in the wild population of Singapore, (Category D) with fewer than 50 mature individuals, OR if more than 50 mature individuals but less than 250, with some evidence of decline or fragmentation.
