A shrub or a small tree that can grow up to 20 m in height, Cratoxylum maingayi is native to Singapore where its conservation status is ‘Critically Endangered’. It can be found naturally distributed in Myanmar, Indochina, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and Borneo.
It is suitable as a landscape tree in parks and streetscapes for its small size, light pink or white flowers and reddish new leaves. These fresh and bright colours make the tree very attractive when it is in full bloom or when there is a burst of new leaves.
This Heritage Derum had a girth of 2.85 m when it was endorsed in 2020.
