An evergreen tree that can grow up to 20m in height. Crown is round. Leaves are simple with wavy leaf margins. Flowers are small, white and sweet smelling. Fruits are orange-red in colour with velvety skin, and contain a single large hard seed.
Pigeons and other birds are observed to feed on the ripened fruits. In the past, children would string the dried star-like flowers into necklaces. The tree has many medicinal uses, for example: The leaves are used to ease headaches, the bark for the treatment of pimples and the roots used to sooth sore throats.
